English Language Waiver

Advanced Standing
Students accepted into a degree program on the basis of a completed Diploma or Advanced Diploma from any of the above Colleges of the Academies Australasia Group will be eligible for credit.
A student completing a Diploma will be granted 4 units credit (equivalent to 1 semester). Generally, a student completing an Advanced Diploma will be granted 8 units credit (equivalent to 2 semesters) but this depends on the structure of the particular Advanced Diploma and the structure of the degree the student has selected. (The structure of the Accounting degree does not leave room for many electives and so 8 units credit cannot usually be given.)

Holders of Diplomas and Advanced Diplomas from the vocational colleges within the Academies Australasia Group of Colleges will be required to satisfy UQ's standard entry requirements prior to enrolment at UQ.
Academic Requirements
Students from the vocational colleges within the Academies Australasia Group of Colleges undertaking an Advanced Diploma must achieve an average passing grade (50% overall) within this qualification and must satisfy English language and mathematics requirements to be eligible for admission into the following UQ undergraduate programmes:
- Bachelor of Business Management
- Bachelor of Commerce
- Bachelor of Economics
- Bachelor of International Hotel and Tourism Management
- Bachelor of Business.
This may be revised at a later date.
Students from the vocational colleges within the Academies Australasia Group of Colleges undertaking their Diploma must achieve an average grade of 80% overall within this qualification and must meet the specified English and mathematics requirements to be eligible for admission into the following UQ undergraduate programmes:
- Bachelor of Business Management
- Bachelor of Commerce
- Bachelor of Economics.
Students must have an average grade of 60% overall and meet the specified English and mathematics requirements to be eligible for admission into:
- Bachelor of Business and
- Bachelor of International Hotel and Tourism Management.
English Language Requirements
Successful students from the vocational colleges within Academies Australasia Group of Colleges seeking entry to The University of Queensland currently require any one of:
- an overall IELTS of 6.5 (with 6 in Writing)
- a paper based TOEFL 570 (with 5 in Writing)
- a computer based TOEFL 237 (with 4.5 in Essay Rating)
- a TOEFL Internet-based Test (iBT) 90 overall (with 21 in Writing).

Students from the vocational colleges within Academies Australasia Group of Colleges who satisfy the University's English language entry requirements may still be required by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) to meet additional student visa requirements for English proficiency. Applicants will be required to submit a satisfactory IELTS test prior to processing of a student visa application, as DIAC will not accept TOEFL scores from Chinese applicants.
Mathematics Requirements
- St Lucia Campus: advanced mathematics from prior high school studies incorporating calculus (equivalent to Queensland Mathematics B or C);
- Ipswich Campus (and Gatton): successful completion of mathematics equivalent to Queensland Mathematics A (ie a satisfactory mathematics background must be displayed).

Direct entry pathway from Academy of English (AOE) to King's own Institute (KOI)
KOI bachelor and postgraduate programs. Successful completion of the AOE English for Academic Purposes (EAP) course, with a minimum duration of 10 weeks and demonstrating an IELTS equivalent of at least 6.0, with no band below 5.5, meets the language requirements for entry into KOI bachelor and postgraduate programs.
KOI diploma programs. Successful completion of the AOE English for Academic Purposes (EAP) course, with a minimum duration of 10 weeks and demonstrating an IELTS equivalent of at least 5.5, with no band below 5.0, meets the language requirements for entry into KOI diploma programs.

The University of Ballarat will accept diploma and advanced diploma graduates of Academies Australasia Group of Colleges who have an IELTS or equivalent of at least 6 (with no band less than 5.5) and who meet entry requirements, into the University’s Bachelor of Business, Bachelor of Management or Bachelor of Commerce degree courses (“the Bachelor Courses”).
Subject to the relevance of the Academies Australasia Group of Colleges curriculum, the University will:
Grant students who have completed an Academies Australasia Group of Colleges Diploma up to 9 unit credits of advanced standing into the Business courses; and
Grant students who have completed an Academies Australasia Group of Colleges Advanced Diploma up to 12 unit credits of advanced standing into the Business courses.
Where a graduate has an IELTS or equivalent of 5 or 5.5, the university will accept the student provided they complete the foundation 20 week EAP course prior to commencing the degree course.

Students who have successfully completed the Advanced Diploma of Information Technology (Network Security) conducted at any of the Academies Australasia colleges plus a minimum of 2 years relevant work experience in the ICT industry will be eligible for entry into the Master of Science in Computer Science.
This Master is offered at both the Victoria University Sydney campus, at the Education Centre of Australia (ECA) site in Kent Street Sydney, and the main Victoria University campus in Melbourne.
Students who complete our EAP and IELTS preparation programme with the equivalent of IELTS 6.0 or above may gain direct entry access to Victoria University, Sydney City Centre. Students who achieve the equivalent of IELTS 5.5 may gain direct entry to Zenith Business Academy.
